About La Meira
La Meira fell in love with Flamenco as a teenager and began
her extensive training in Los Angeles with Roberto Amaral and Carmen Mora. She
lived in Madrid for five years, performing continuously in tablaos such as
Luisillo's Los Cabales, the fabled Los Canasteros, and the Arco de Cuchilleros,
where she performed as a solo artist.
She has shared a stage with many of the giants of Flamenco,
such as Antonio Canales, Diego Carrasco, Manolo Soler, Enrique Soto, Guadiana,
Ramon El Portugues, El Indio Gitano, La Repompa de Malaga, Chuny Amaya, and a
long etc. She has been featured in many companies including those of Carlota
Santana, Fred Darsow, Maria Alba, the Ballet Espanol de Los Angeles, and Ballet
Flamenco La Rosa, performing in Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, the Kennedy
Center, The American Dance Festival, the Joyce Theater, Central Park Summer
Stage, Jacobs's Pillow, as well as on national television and in many theaters
and clubs throughout the U.S. and Mexico.
Meira frequently choreographs for individual soloists and for
companies and has been awarded choreography grants from the New York State
Council for the Arts and the Pew Charitable Trust.
She has taught at Amor de Dios studios in Madrid, and now
teaches at Fazil's in New York. She has also taught at NYU, Temple University,
Bryn Mawr College, Columbia University, the University of Arizona, and at the
Festival Internacional de Flamenco in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

About Cristian Puig
Cristian
Puig started playing guitar in
Buenos Aires
,
Argentina
with his father, Pablo Hugo Puig in 1978. He
studied with Enrique de Cordoba for 6 months and has been self-taught ever
since. Cristian is most influenced
by the music of one of the most important flamenco guitarists of our time, Paco
de Lucia, who has since changed the way Cristian views music.
In 1989 Cristian formed the
flamenco-jazz group
Rabat
and led the group in performances in
Argentina
,
Brazil
, Chili and
Uruguay
. The lead singer of
Rabat
was Gloria Monreal, Cristian's mother as well as a strong inspiration in his
musical career. He then worked a solo guitarist performing at the
Maipo Theater in
Buenos Aires
and with the Chango Farias Gomez and Manija group, a prominent Argentinean folk
group, touring in major theaters in
Argentina
and
Brazil
for 3 years and recording a live CD in 1995.
After moving to
New York
in 2000, he has been working in several tablaos, theaters, bars and
restaurants nationwide. He also collaborates with various artists in
schools and libraries, expanding musical and cultural awareness in children.
He has performed with such artists as Antonio Vargas, Joaquin Escudero,
Antonio Rey, Juanito Villar Hijo, Eduardo Clavijo, Elena Andujar, Antonio
Hidalgo, Chuscales, Antonio Granjero, La Meira, Isaac de Los Reyes, Luis Vargas
La Repompa de Malaga, Raquel Heredia, Amparo and Edwin Aparicio.
Cristian has also collaborated with artists of other traditions such as
the Gerard Edery Ensemble and Nacho Nacho, joining renowned jazz, Indian and
Sephardic music. He is currently working on recordings of his own
compositions and is the co-founder of De Luna a Lunares, a flameco ensemble that
experiments with musical fusion while still maintaining the integrity and
structure of pure flamenco.
