Flamenco dancers, guitarists, and singers come together for three days at Lake Rabun, GA, to learn from Maestro Juan Paredes. Classes of bulerías por fiesta focus on palmas and compás; dance elements of llamadas and marcaje and the ever important role of waiting, breathing with the rhythm. Singing and guitar students benefit from learning the structure of bulerías por fiesta and live experience with dancers during fiestas, which will be subtly coached.

Weekend details -
Daily classes – palmas, llamadas, marcaje; each participant dances solo. Flamenco shoes are NOT permitted. No guitar or singing instruction is provided, but guitarists and singers are encouraged to attend.
Nightly fiestas — casual, spontaneous, subtle coaching during the fiesta as students use what is taught in class and draw from personal repertoire. This is a great time and place for guitar and singing students to work on accompanying in the fiesta, as it is different from staged flamenco and solo performances.
Accommodations provided in adjacent private lake houses. Roommate selection will be available in early July.
Lake Rabun is approximately 2 hours northeast of Atlanta.

Perform at fiesta; on the next day strengthen cuadro skills in private, detailed coaching session with Maestro Juan Paredes. Receive specific feedback and try new ideas to raise your level of performance in the cuadro. Cuadro limited to 4 members; 3 cuadros perform per fiesta.
Tuition: $100 early registration per cuadro before June 21 & $130 after June 21
Retreat registration is required for Cuadro review.

Lunch & breakfast will be provided Sat., Sun.
Water, juice, coffee, and soft drinks will be provided with meals.

About Juan Paredes

Juan Paredes earned the title of professor of dance at the Conservatorio Superior de Música y Danza de Sevilla. Before he became a renowned as a master teacher of bulerías por fiesta, Juan Paredes performed for nearly 20 years as a soloist and first dancer in several flamenco companies, including those of Cristina Hoyos, Juan Valderrama, and Ballet España. He acted and danced in films, such as “Bodas de Sangre”, directed by Antonio Gades, and appeared in theater productions including the opera “Carmen” starring Plácido Domingo . He directed the flamenco school in the Museum of Flamenco Dance in Seville before opening his own regular classes in the same city, in which he currently teaches bulerías por fiesta to the public. He also travels internationally to give master classes for bulerías, focusing on compás and simple dance steps that lead to understanding of the rhythm and structure of bulerías in a fun and flexible environment.
